ORLANDO, FL. During this busy holiday season, the movement of both passengers and packages efficiently is vital to a positive travel experience. Passengers at Orlando International Airport have a unique travel experience in store for them. When travelers arrive at Orlando International Airport the recommended two hours in advance for domestic and three hours early for international travel this holiday season, theyll encounter one of the most impressive art collections of any airport in the country, live concerts, a full service day spa, plenty of shopping for last minute gift ideas and exciting restaurants.
Orlando International Airport is a bigger economic engine than often realized. From travel and concessions to cargo movement Orlando International is a key component of the Central Florida economy. In 2004 over 224 thousand tons (224,417) of product moved through the airport. For 2005, from January to November over 202 tons (202,084) of materials have already been moved with the busy holiday season still to be counted. The majority of cargo (73.28 percent) was moved by Federal Express Corporation (Fed Ex), United Parcel Service Incorporated (UPS) and ABX Air Incorporated. Orlando International also has a regional United States Postal processing facility on airport property to handle the high volume of mail, packages and gifts expected this season.
Here are some of the unique offerings in store for travelers with extra time at Orlando International this holiday season:
- World Class Art Orlando Internationals art collection includes pieces from premier artists including Doris Leeper, Duane Hanson, Trevor Bell and Richard Anuskiewicz.
- Concerts by the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra (OPO) During the holiday season members of the OPO perform soothing holiday selections in the Atrium of the Hyatt Hotel at selected times.
- d_parture Spa / Salon Offering a complete line of spa treatments including manicures, pedicures and massages to relax, ease tensions and comfort travelers.
- Last minute shopping Over 30 specialty retail stores including electronics, cosmetics, jewelry, books and novelties are available to browse and explore. Most offer shipping services for more convenient travel.
Orlando International Airport Holiday Travel Tips:
- Do not wrap holiday gifts. All luggage and packages are subject to search and inspection by the Transportation Security Administration. (TSA)
- Pack light. Know the airlines checked bag policy. Consider shipping excess luggage and holiday packages.
- Do not leave bags or packages unattended or accept items from strangers for transport.
- Do not travel with lighters. They will be confiscated.
- Remember to put identification tags in and on all baggage including laptops.
- Double check the contents of pockets and bags just to make sure prohibited items were not packed.
- Dont forget an official government issued photo identification. Keep it readily available, as it may be required at several points during the journey.
- Carry money, prescription drugs, jewelry and other valuables on the plane.
- Be prepared to remove jewelry, keys and coats prior to the screening process.
- TAKE SECURITY SERIOUSLY! DO NOT MAKE JOKES OR LIGHT HEARTED COMMENTS WHILE BEING PROCESSED FOR A FLIGHT.
